Tobermory day 01

So this is our base for the next six days (already used up one day). Let us show you what Tobermory's like.

Above: Nine second video panning Main Street from south to north.

Our apartment is two storey, and is tucked up against a rocky cliff and butting onto another building, the home of a middle aged couple (ie younger than we are) whom we’ve already met. Our main bedroom area is downstairs and the kitchen and lounge are on the upper level. Each level has an external door and there’s a (rarely used, we suspect) timber outdoor deck with table and chairs adjacent to the upper level.

Main Street, as seen in the pic and video above, is only a few paces away from our door. Several restaurants and pubs are within two minutes’ walk. The Mishnish Pub is closest and already we can walk in and ask the bartender “The usual, please” -- and receive blank stares in response. But he’ll get better.

Looking out of the front window of the Mishnish we can see the small harbor, with many yachts and other craft swinging at their moorings.

A visitor from Australia walking along Main Street and out onto the jetty encounters many interesting sights.

Tonight the locals are battening down everything because they’re expecting 110kph winds tomorrow. If they occur and they come from the south-east there might be some interesting times in Tobermory, but nothing it hasn’t endured many times in the past, I’m sure. Off to the Mishnish for dinner and a wee dram.
